Lawn Signs are Here!

March 7th, 2008

The new John Branam for Portland City Council lawn signs have arrived and they’re coming to your neighborhood this weekend. All week long our volunteers have been on the phones, making sure we get these to our friends and neighbors who have been begging and pleading for something, anything to put in their yard so everyone knows that they support a city council candidate who believes that Strong Values and Bold Leadership will make this great city even greater.  We’ve also got buttons, stickers, and campaign lit at our headquarters at 3606 North Mississippi Avenue #4. Please stop in next time you’re in the area.

I must take this opportunity to say that this wouldn’t have been possible without Portland’s revolutionary Voter-Owned Elections system. It takes the big money out of local politics, and lets me tell people how I’m going to solve the problems they care about instead of calling donors all day. Thank you voters! Thank you City of Portland!

If you’re wondering how you can get one of our handsome new signs or any other campaign material, call us up at (503) 839-8145. We’d be happy to get your address and make sure you get a sign to show your dedication.

Keep an eye out for us this weekend on the campaign trail.

Thanks,

John

Last night, at our volunteer meeting at Mississippi Pizza Pub, we revealed Branam’s Brigades; groups focused on meeting specific demands and goals of the campaign.

We started with seven but I expect to add more as we roll steadily towards the May 20th primary. For more information, to join a Brigade or for other ways to help with John’s campaign, please call or send me an email.

Breakfast on the Bridge!

January 30th, 2008

The sun wasn’t the only winsome guest greeting cyclists as they made their way over the Steel Bridge this past Friday morning.  There too was coffee, doughnuts, conversation and even an opportunity to pre-arrange for “cute people on bikes,” to deliver Valentines. All this made possible thanks to Shift to Bike’s monthly Breakfast on the Bridges program.

Without a cloud in sight, the early morning sky reminded us of pink, purple and blue; the Willamette River echoed the sky’s call for color.

Not everyone had time to stop during their bridge commute but it was wonderful to see all the smiles given to the volunteers who called out “free breakfast,” as cyclists whizzed by.

Campaign Manager, Phil Busse and I were able to discuss, over coffee, with those who did brake for breakfast some of John’s ideas on bicycle transportation including his “Make a Commuter,” program which would put commuter kits (helmets, rain gaurds, lights etc.) into the hands of potential pedalers and a proposed “Commuter Safety Month.”

Of course, we were also able to gather half a dozen signatures and $5 donations: helping us secure public funding.   I was happy to hear from the commuters that many are as excited about the Voter-Owned Elections as we are.

Again, many thanks to Shift for inviting us to join them on the bridge! To learn more about Shift to Bikes (a non-profit) please visit www.shift2bikes.org.

Informal Announcement Party

November 14th, 2007

On Friday evening, the day after Thanksgiving, we piled our campaign into nearby Amnesia Brewery. It was a chance to meet our new neighbors (our campaign offices have just opened on Mississippi). Jim from Mississippi Studios kicked off the event, bellowing for attention and introducing me to the crowd.
Look for more informal events like this in the near future - and please email if you would like to host a meet-and-greet at your favorite local bar or coffeeshop - or home! (We’ve already hosted more than two dozen meet-and-greets at residents houses all over town.)
